I have never read the Torah. Until I started working for a Jew, I never looked closely at what their religion was like. I (wrongly) assumed it was close to Christianity. It is not. It's on my list of things to investigate. I have read the bible (Old and New Testaments) and am reading the Quran (slowly). I am guilty of responding to questions on all faiths, but typically add to my answer that I am a Christian. Sometimes the questions are about how to adapt to life in a western country, which I think a westerner might give a better answer to than someone who hasn't lived here. Sometimes the question is one that I've asked my Muslim friends about already, so I'll offer what they told me. Rarely it's something I've already read in the Quran. Unless the question is about media, I don't use it as a source. I consider all these books holy, and believe that all should be treated with respect. I consider all those places holy. They may not be perfect (I personally do not that a Christian church should have crosses or statues in them), but people still go there to offer prayer to the same God. We all should respect those places. I am reminded of a story I was once told of Christian clergymen who visited the Prophet (pbuh) and asked where they could celebrate mass on Sunday. The Prophet (pbuh) offered the use of the mosque. I know at least one Muslim who has prayed (in the Muslim fashion) in a church with the encouragement and approval of the clergy there. Some of you responded that the Quran is enough for you and there is no reason to read the other books. I beg to differ. It is not that I would presume to suggest that those other books should be a supplement to the Quran, but I believe if you are to have a hope in understanding the world around you, you need to understand what other people believe. You don't have to accept it as truth, just know the truth of what they think. If you use media to tell you about others, you deserve to have others use media to learn about you. And we all know the folly of that. I wish your question from yesterday hadn't been deleted...I learned a lot from the answers.

Of course they are good, that's why they are on your reading list! Oh wait, maybe you just want to know if you'll like them. I guess you won't know until you read them. Summer is ending fast, so you better get off the computer and into a book. Start with The Pearl, then read Animal Farm. Hold Farenheit 451 for last.

Ive read both Farenheit 451 and Animal Farm. Animal Farm is very hard to understand because it does not have to do anything with animals. It actually deals with the KGB in Russian and other sorts of things that may be hard to understand. But if you are in adv. english, it may not be to hard to understand. Farenheit 451 was a great book. It has to do with censorship.

I read Animal Farm and Fahrenheit 451. But not the Pearl. I actually thought Animal Farm was kind of funny. Fahrenheit 451 has different emotions from different people. I didn't like it, but I know a few who absolutely loved it. And if you /have/ to read them, then it doesn't usually matter if they're good or not. But they're classics.

If it's the same thing I'm thinking I may have seen animal farm as the movie. It was really stupidly funny, but explained communism in a way that would entertain you. I mean who wouldn't want to see a pig and a sheep go toe to toe?

Fahrenheit 451 is extremely good, but it's kind of hard to read. I had to go back and review parts of it, and it might even help to have book notes if you need extra help. Very good book, though, I read it in 6th grade.
