The ONLY way to get signed is to get exposure. DO NOT under ANY circumstances blindly mail a demo to a record company. It's a guarantee that it will go right into the garbage. ALL labels have a rule against accepting unsolicited material. They don't accept it. Period. The end.

Play as many gigs as you can, anywhere you can. Many clubs that feature national acts keep a stable of favorites to add to a bill if a national comes in without an opener. Do press with your local papers. If radio stations or local tv stations in your area feature unsigned artists - get your stuff on there! Get a myspace with your music on it. Sell demos at your shows. (Make sure you copyright the music and label the demo)

The point is, get your name and music as known as you can. I have friends that got signed because the girlfriend of an A&R rep liked them and passed along a demo she got at a show. Other friends of mine got noticed because they played outside CBGBs when a big name was playing inside.

Well I've been in a band for about 2 years now. and we're still not signed onto a record label. so i guess it all depends on how you sound, how long you've been in a band, and who you're looking to be signed with. You might also just have to wait until someone wants to sign you instead of asking around.

your going to need to make a demo and get it circulating in the music industry and play some shows at well known clubs to start getting you name out there. im not sure what genre you are but if you were either death metal, thrash, or prog i would suggest getting a demo into Europe because the metal scene over there is huge and you'd have a chance of possibly selling over 5,000 copies like many other bands have done and then getting signed to a European label.

You would have to send them some demos of your songs, or set up purevolume and myspace sites and send their links to some label.
