The speedometer on my imported MX5 is slighly jerky and therefore not very useful in telling me the correct speed. The speedo has been converted to MPH by the previous owner. Do I need to change the speedo cable, or does the speedo head need replacing? Or is it something else? My other dials seem ok. Any help gratefully recieved!

first, use som epodwered graphite or cable lube and make sure it gets down into the cable. Then see how it does. If it still has a problem, it could be the cable, or the drive gear at the at the tranny.

Most cars don't use a cable anymore. There is a speed sensor attached to the axle. I would check the head unit, or the wire connection to the speed sensor.
