Always take care of the unknowns by assigning them variables. If there are "n" unknowns - it's normal to have "n" number of simultaneous equations and "n" number of variables. Smile!

So far these are the basics you have to be prepared of.

Pay attention. Most of the times, teachers will walk the class through the different kinds of problems and how to do each one. If you pay attention, take good notes, and do your homework, you should do fine. Also, if you don't understand the homework figure out a time to meet with your teacher so that they can explain it. Also, don't ever over think the problem. If you do, you will just become frustrated and the problem will seem even harder to solve.

A lot of times, when you learn something in algebra it is something that will help with even more difficult equations. So, pretty much just get the basics down BEFORE you try doing anything really hard. Once you get the basics, everything comes a little bit easier!!! =)

Ask questions and do all your homework. Homework is where you find out what it is you didn't quite get, and asking questions about that the next day is how you get it. If you're too lazy to do the homework or too "cool" to ask the questions, you're doomed, unless you're so brilliant you understand instantly and completely the moment the teacher speaks. Even then, you should do the homework, because none of us is as brilliant as we think we are.

Understand all the examples in the book. Do more than the assigned problems. Learn how to setup a problem but don't work out all the answers.

Whatever people might say, algebra is NOT hard if you just practice. Just do random practice questions.

Questions you can't do can be frustrating, but ones that you finish are satisfying
