Natural string (wool for example) is made of hair that has been spun whole bunch of times so that all the little hairs get tangled together and it becomes round.

Artificail fiber s (polyester are basically melted plastic injected out of a jet and then cooled so it becomes a string.

In real life a spider makes the best string by weaving.
In string theory the string it is energy which changes as it vibrates.
So a String would be analogy to the photon which also changes energy as a function of its frequency.
What is the description of what Photon is made of by scientists= they answer pure energy.
What is the description of the material of a string as per string theory = they answer energy
So the logical conclusion is that both Strings and Photons are one and the same.
Do Photons exist as entities?Do strings exist as entities= The conclusion is that Energy is not an entity but a process.

String is usually made of cotton. The short strands are plied together and twisted a few times in order to give it strength.
Knitting yarn is made in the same manner, often of wool, or man made fibers. Some of the man made fibers are manufactured as "staple" yarn, short fibers about 7" in length, to resemble wool, then plied.

Thread is usually a continuous filament of man made products, polypropylene, could be nylon, or polyester.
These are extruded from a liquid state into filaments which are solution dyed, ie...color is completely through the fiber, much like a carrot.

These are all then spun into long lenghts.
