i had this problem , in that i didn't get a higher rate of interest unless £1000 was paid in each month. the solution was simple, towards the end of the month i work out how much leess than £1000 has been paid in, i then withdraw this amount and pay it back in a few days later.
Another useful tip, if you are a student, is to arrange a free overdraft with the bank (£1000 most student ac's) then withdraw the whole amount and buy a 1 year high interest savings bond.
Exploit your bank(s) , don't let them exploit you!
