The eejit across the way from me has been mowing and strimming for the past two hours!! I work early shifts and would like tae know if anybody takes into account, the noise level whilst farting aboot in yer garden. Don't you worry that you might be annoying anybody??

Have you spoken to the eejit? Perhaps he doesn't know he's disturbing you. Don't call him an eejit to his face, though. Maybe he doesn't know he's an eejit.

At my last home, my neighbors were day sleepers. I spoke to them when they moved in and asked if 1 pm was too early to mow my lawn. They said the sound of lawn-mowing wasn't disturbing to them while they slept. Just to be courteous, however, I waited until after 1 pm when I mowed.

If the neighbor is truly an eejit and doesn't care if he disturbs you, you may want to try silicone earplugs. I've used these when an eejit neighbor had 14 (yes, 14) barking dogs.

You can get a sound machine which generates white noise. This sound is predictable and easy to sleep to and it will blot out the lawn mower. Just make sure it is powerful enough. The sound it makes will not disturb others in the house since it is just a dull roar similar to a fan. A fan also works if it is warm. These machines give you control of your environment. I know a big part of it is the obnoxiousness of the starting and stopping and knowing there is this bloke behind it all. I have a digital sound machine which was originally used in an office to generate masking noise (got it used on eBay for $12) hooked up to an amp--so I am really ready for anything.

Im sure quite a few people take this into account, but not all. The law states you must not make a noise/disturbance between the hours of 11pm - 7 a.m. after those hours people are entitled to go about their daily business. I do feel for you though as I used to do early shifts, my advice would be to buy some of those foam ear plugs which you can get from chemists only a couple of pounds but they work really well

I find that when the weather is really nice and I go and sit out in my garden some fecker will start mowing their lawn for about five hours and the stupid bloody ignorant neighbours will have a barbecue right next to the fence so that whatever they're burning (smells like dead bodies most of the time) comes directly into my front room!

You might think about taking up his lawn while he's out and then when he returns murdering him. You could then bury him and build a patio over the top. This would also solve the problem of future neighbours and there mowers as there would be no grass to mow. However i think this could be time consuming and a little extreme. Ear plugs?

He is lucky you are not the kind of neighbor who would sprinkle gravel on his lawn when you leave for your early shift. That would get him a lot of mowing problems and lessen his mowing enthusiasm.

Maybe he is not aware of your concerns and you could just ask him to start later because you are sleeping during his gardening hours. He might agree. Or he might not care how early you leave - honking your horn as you go to work might make him aware that not everyone is on his schedule.

If I knew my neighbour was in bed sleeping I wouldn't mow my lawn. I would wait until a suitable time of the day but not after 9 at night.

I dread saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings. Saturday its my neighbour DIY Doug, oh how I wish he'd drill through a pipe. Sunday it's church bells and Jehovah's witnesses and Monday it's eejit binmen who seem to be blissfully unaware that people are sleeping at 6am as they whistle clatter and swear their way down the road.
