It's true that the feeling of being in love last 4 years?

I read in a book that the brain of the actual homo, so we, has learn from the ancestors the behaviour of being in love only for 4 years. It's that true?

First of all, it depends on what kind of love you are talking about. Being "in love/lust" with someone is a physical condition influenced by hormones/chemicals. Everyone's body is different and, therefore, have different capacities for this type of love. Your body can only be expected to produce these chemicals for a finite amount of time, but it varies. Typically it is between four and seven years. Not surprisingly, this is about the length of an average marriage these days. Loving someone as a mother loves a child or long-term partners love each other, is different all together and involves many factors, but that bond can certainly last forever if conditions allow.

I think the definition changes. An honest person will realize that beginning love is more about newness, the unknown mysteries of a person and lust.

When you get older, it changes somewhat. I love my wife after 33 years but it isn't the heated, daily passionate, "cant spend a minute without her" type love. You become partners in life. You know each other so well and you become allies in life. Maybe you might even call it "comfortable".

It's still all good. Met her in 1969, married in 1974 and have had our bumpy roads but are still together and now semi-retired and things seem to be more fun.

No, I don't think so. Take a look at all the people you know. Maybe you go to church with a couple who's been married 50yrs. Or your grand parents have been married that long. They are still in love after all this time. To be in love with someone is a feeling that doesn' t just come and go. Personally, I think that it's the feeling of falling out of love with someone that would last somewhere around 4years. That's about how long it took with my exboyfriend. He was my first true love. A first love hurts the worst and lasts the longest.

There are a few things love isn’t. Love isn’t a feeling. Although real love is often accompanied by strong feelings, love does not equate with the sense of floating on clouds. Unlike the type of love that movies, television, and songs portray, people in love don’t always feel ooey gooey around each other.
A relationship wouldn’t last long on emotions. In fact, knowledge is the basis of a healthy relationship.
