He can go to jail for rape. Even if it was consensual she is still a child in the eyes of the law. He could be forced to register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life.

I don't know what state you're in but in California he could be charged. Some states it is 16 others it is 18 for consent. Judging by your question you are in a state that it's 18. Your son could go to jail, and end up on the sexual offenders list. He will have to tell the police every time he moves and will always be on the list and his picture will be on the internet. I think that's stupid but it can happen. If I were you I'd try to work it out with her parents. This is another reason why teens shouldn't have sex while underage. I hope things work out for you. This is something that if found guilty, will follow him around for his whole life.

nothing theyre only a year apart. if she was younger then yea he would go to jail but a year they wont do anything when i had my first son i was 15 and the father had just turned 18 a cpl months before and the law in new mexico is that up to 3 yrs apart they dont do anything 4 yrs apart the parents of the younger child must consent over 4 yr is statatory rape. There's nothing to worry about these people cant do anything to your son. They are just mad and this is probly their way to vent. I would bet that even if they was far enough apart to do something they wouldn't . They just have to get their anger out and it always automaticly goes to the boy involved thats how it works. They don't want to realize that their daughter isn't exactly innocent either. I would rest easy let them get over their mad spell and get ready for the grand baby congrats!

well, that's kind of crappy, isn't it? THey are threatening legal action against your son when their daughter is just as much to blame. sounds to me like they want to stir things up when what everyone should be doing is supporting the mother and father-to-be and try to make things work for the sake of the baby. what good does having your son thrown in jail do? How can he get a job to support his kid if he's in jail? I'm sorry, but when I hear about stuff like this I just shake my head in amazement. It's not like he's the adult who coerced a minor child...they were both having sex....I don't think the girls parents have a leg to stand on....this sounds like a case of angry daddy wanting to justify the actions of his precious little girl.

Check out the age of consent laws in your state. Some states have "close in age" exceptions, so your son may not have done anything illegal after all. Just give the girl's parents time to calm down. Do they really want to sue the father of their daughter's child when she played just as big a part in conceiving it? Hopefully they'll change their minds.

Child support is about it. Due to the fact she is not a child is well over 16 and they are in the same age group nothing else will happen period. She is more than old enough to consent to sex with a peer, 17 & 18yr old men and women are together in Senior classess all over the country and dating and sex between them is very normal and accepted.

This is very serious but luckily for you though she is 17 and not legal she was past the age 16 and can give consent to perform mutual sexual activity (at least in NYC)..but ask a professional.

Well, it depends on what state you live in. In most states, though, this relationship would be perfectly legal, although there are a few that it would not be, therefore giving them reason to sue. I would talk to her parents, telling them that it takes two to make a baby, but have your son prepared to be financially respensible.

This happened to my family my sister was with a older man and my mom told the police and now that man is in prison with sexual conduct with a minor and has to be registered as a sex offender when he gets out of prison. It might be different where you live but the most that will happen to him is going to prison with sexual conduct with a minor and have to register as a sex offender.

theres nothing they can do because she's over 16 but i think that may depend on your state so you might want to check. i've been with my boyfriend since i was 14 and my mom found out when i was 16 that we were having sex and she tried to press charges on him and there was nothing she could do. im am now 19 me and my guy have been together for 5 years now.
