I always thought electric would be cheaper but I've heard that gas actually is. We're currently shopping for a cheap, used one and don't know what kind we should look for. We have hookups for both. thanks ahead of time

I prefer a gas dryer. I don't know if there is a big difference in the cost to operate, but the performance of a gas dryer is a big plus......wish I had a gas dryer again.......

actually, gas dryers are a lot cheaper.
we used to have a laundry business, and we had the same problem before.
we thought that electric dryers were better, but the electricity cost sky rocketed!
its best to stick with the gas dryers, since they are a lot cheaper in the long run.
most commercial laundry business use gas dryers.

Gas dryers usually cost about $100 more if baught new. If your on (LP), then you will have to have it converter, adding more cost. Depending on the gas prices in your area, the cost differences between the two is a toss up. It all comes down to your own preference, gas or electric.

gas. And plus, it's better for the environment. It takes 2-1/2X the energy to run an electric dryer.

You'll have a cheaper utility bill if you have a gas dryer. Plus, they dry clothes faster.

Price wise, they're more expensive than electric dryers.
