If the skin is irritated, is there anything that I can put on it to soothe it.

Your thong is too tight. (they suck anyway) You are applying pressure to your tailbone, and that is your discomfort. Remove the pressure---quit wearing the stupid thongs. You are basically "flossing your buttcrack" with an all day wedgie. If someone hung you on a fencepost by your underwear, imagine the discomfort you would feel. If the pain you are experiencing now is basically the same kind of pain you would feel "hung on a post", then your poor tailbone is REALLY TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING!! LISTEN!!! I fractured my tailbone as a kid, horseback riding. I know the pain you speak of. Thongs may "look good" but they are not "practical" (or sanitary) And how much are you naked during daylight hours anyway?? Save your tail....go Hanes, or go naked!!!

Try a thong with a wider band. It sound like you are irritating the area. For those that are new to wearing a thong - it can be irritating. Until the irritation is gone, I would suggest not wearing any thongs.

It's sensitive skin down there, you may be irritating it.
Are the thongs a little too tight? Try getting a slightly looser one and see if it happens with that.
About the pain at the moment, try wearing normal knickers for a while and see if the pain goes.
Hope this helps :)

Try a different size or brand.
I get that too sometimes if I have them pulled up to high or something. It sort of irritates my tail bone.
What kind of pain? Is it a burning/raw sensation like maybe the area is chafed? Or is it more of a bruise-y kind of feeling?
I don't think it's normal... I have never had it last longer than it takes for me to take of the thong that is causing the pain.

Whenever you walk while wearing a thong, the string moves from anus to vagina, anus to vagina and back again and again. You probably have some kind of nasty infection that is causing pain. Just stop wearing them for awhile and keep yourself clean once you start again.

I'm only guessing here...I don't wear thongs.
Are you getting a friction type sore? Maybe you should stop wearing thongs?! Or get a bigger size?
Maybe you should get a check up with your doctor. Pain could be coming from an unrelated source.

Pain is not normal in any case. Perhaps your coccyx is getting irritated. I would suggest switching to another kind of underwear. Good luck. As always check with a doctor if this doesn't clear up.

Try a bigger size, it sounds like the thong is rubbing against skin and nerves. A bigger size wont be so constricting.
