High ranking Government officials get free healthcare for themselves and their families...FOR LIFE !

So when they debate about a national healthcare system...they are really only talking about you and me.

Fact of the matter.... the US does not have the best healthcare system in the world... i'm not talking about cost..i'm talking about quality. We rank 37th according to WHO. Most of the countries that beat us, have national healthcare.

Also, if you shy away from the idea, because you don't want to pay for immigrants or the uninsured's healthcare... you should know that you already do pay for it through your taxes and your inflated insurance premiums. When you sick you have to go to the hospital regardless of whether or not you have insurance....the hospital incurs cost because they get stiffed by insurance companies and the uninsured...and that cost get's passed on to other insurance carrier's and the federal government. This is why one tylenol costs $50 at the hospital.

Sway 27...if you have insurance, your paying too much. You would pay less with universal healthcare, and more revenue would flow directly to the hospitals and doctors instead of the unsurance companies pockets.

It also exists for the Veterans. A crappy, underfunded, overworked system.

Guess which system the average person is most likely to get.

I'm looking forward to the excellent answer somebody in favor of the current "system" is about to give as to why that Tylenol costs $50 when it comes out of the hospital's 10,000 pill super-saver megapak...........

I might be waiting a long time, huh?

Seriously, you are right. I wonder which number is bigger: the value of operations performed in the US on foreigners who are willing to travel to and pay for "the best doctors", or the value of medicines that US citizens bring in from Mexico and Canada because the laws in those countries prevent the fleecing we experience every day?

Sorry, but "Universal" means everyone is covered. The system you speak of is a long way from what a Universal system will look like. The system the congress uses is a private system for the elite. Don't try to compare it to the system we poor suckers will be stuck with. We will get the worst doctors, worst hospitals, etc., etc. The best doctors will work in the private system for the rich where all the money is.

There is no such thing as "free healthcare". All of the countries with national health care pay HUGE taxes. I have also read about those in countries with national healthcare complaining about long wait times, lower standards of the care they receive, etc. It's not all roses & daisies.

A UHC system in the U.S could definitely be the best system in the world. I don't think doctors would compromise the care they give to patients. We shouldn't settle on 37th.
The US needs to investigate insurance fraud more carefully, pharmaceutical companies- cap drug costs, control over-spending in marketing their products, and control research costs. HMO's are corrupt for-profit systems that should be illegal.

AH! They get health care as part of their job. A lot of other citizens get that to. In fact, I bet you could get health care at McDonalds if you were full time. Maybe not completely paid for, but flipping burgers and running a country are 2 different things.

How does WHO catergories their rankings???

Maybe people would stop looking at health care a right this would not be an issue.

I think Ill keep my tax rate at 25% and take care of my own hospital bills thank you!

EDIT - I pay about $50.00 a month for my insurance. I think it would be alot more in taxes for UHC
