s the employer typically toss out the application? Its more important that t I actually get the job than getting the higher wage. On the other hand, I would hate to miss out on a higher wage if it were possible. On the "wage expected" portion of the app I'm thing on writing $10 but I wouldnt be suprised if they wanted to pay this position $7 an hour. Its a cook job at a retirement home. I have 5+ combined working years of experience in all positions in a restaurant

Never write down a wage. Always write negotiable or willing to discuss. They may not necessarily toss it out but it may be rejected because they may think that they can't afford you. Research the company and ask around what the going rate is for this position so when you do get the interview you have an idea as to what to expect and what to negociate.

I have plenty experience in that industry and the answer is Yes. Putting $10 on your apps probably killed your application right away. Only the managers make $10 and over. Your best bet is to just keep calling them and following up. If they are interested in conversing with you, let them know about the change.

When I apply, I'll either put "starting wage" or ask what wage I'd start at. in the interview tell them all the experience you have & maybe you'll start higher. but like you say, getting the job is more important.

If they ask for your expected rate of pay, put 'negotiable', and not a figure. Let them really get to like you before you negotiate your wage.

Go for it. It tells management that you can do the job and have the necessary experience. The most they can do if offer you less and then you can tell them why you deserve the higher salary. Good luck.

I would write negotiable. This way you can discuss it face to face and your app won’t be discarded.
