You can have what you think is a period and be pregnant. However it's not a real period (disposal of unused egg and uterus lining), it's just bleeding. About 50% of bleeding (not implanataion spotting) in first trimester leads to a miscarriage, so it's not considered to be normal, even though many women report it. I had a bleeding and there ended up being a reason why.

Some women have a 'double womb'. Meaning their womb is split into two (like a curtain dividing a room. Or a nut with two kernels inside) This means that you can be pregnant in one half but still have periods in the other. If you have this you need to be very careful it can be a 'fragile' pregnancy. :-o
