Find a 'travel bingo' game where they look for certain objects...barn, silo, lighthouse, etc..

Another is to have them write down all the out-of-state plates they see...what state they're from, then find that state on a map to see which car is furthest from their home state.

Also, have them follow the route in an atlas to track where they are going. Have them find the next major highway up ahead, then point it out to them when you get to it. It'll teach them about geography and perhaps interest them in travelling.

Make sure you get out and walk or stretch for at least five minutes every hour to prevent clots from forming, especially in your legs.

Most importantly: Buckle up and have a fun and safe trip!

coloring books and crayons, books, ipods or cd players, travel board games, those little electronic handheld games, cards, magazines, games like sudoku or crossword puzzles. also, leave really early so they can sleep for a few hours to pass that time.

It would help to know how old the kids are, but do a search for "travel games" and you should get some info.

Here's one site with quite a few games listed...

paint nails - that's what I do in the car - the smell is annoying but it's the perfect place - you'll never mess them up.
