Why would you drive so close to a gravel truck so that stones falling off would break your windshield ? If you were following at the proper distance, any stones falling off would have hit the pavement and bounced off to the side or elsewhere and not onto your windshield. Go to a windshield repair place... put it through your auto insurance... and take it as a lesson learned.

Unless you can prove that the driver was aware of the possibility of rocks falling off the truck, and was neglectful in stopping it, your pretty much stuck with any damage bill. Proving this can be very hard, as it's your word against the others and this will most likely pass up the cost of just getting fixed. But if you wish to press forward in doing so, contact your local police.

Call your insurance company and the police. I have had this happen before. Unfortuntately a lot of the times the insurance company will not go after the gravel company without a police report, because there is no way to prove it.

in most states, trucks carrying scrap, rocks, and other material, are required by law to be covered. Report the incident to your local police, and state DOT(Department of Transportation). Also, get from the police, or if you have the information, the company of the truck. Contact them and your insurance, share the information. Allow the state to to perform followup.

Call your local police department. Then you can call your insurance agent and file a claim. The insurance company will find out the name of the company that owns the truck. Either that or they will pay the claim and write it off.

In my state (wa) you can go to the DOL and fill out a form.
I live down the road from a gravel pit, and that one is pretty good about paying for windshields.

If you were following too closely, you will have no ground to stand on. It will just be your word against their's. Much easier just to get your insurance to replace your windshield, as most of them replace them with no deductible seeing as it is a safety item.

Good luck!
