I recently installed a new flapper on my toilet. When I flush it falls immediately so that very little new water enters the bowl. How can I fix it?

I had the same problem at the weekend.

Two things I tried
- Adjust the chain, so it pulls up the flapper higher (this didn't fix the problem, but others say this is usually the fix)

- I got a Fluidmaster flapper that has a flush "dial" to adjust how long the flapper stays up - this worked for me.

The flappers usually have a pocket on the bottom that holds some air so it comes up until that pocket fills with water. Check that the flapper is not bent out of shape (ones that are old from the store may have distorted shape) and that the pull up chain holds it up high after you work the lever to start the flush( might be down too far at the start).

The chain between the flapper and the flush handle is to long readjust it so there's is only minimal slack. Some have straps same thing shorten it.
