I'd just bet some of them would have. That was a concern of mine actually. The HP following has become such a cult that I wouldn't have been a bit surprised if we had started hearing about child suicides (if HP had died). People do very strange and irrational things when cult icons are involved.

i wouldn't doubt it. harry became lovble as the series progressed. so it could be possible. and i finished reading the book, and harry survives. (sorry to those i just ruined the ending for.) so suicide will not be happening.

No, I don't think so. Kids might try to emulate their fictional heroes by dressing like them, acting like them, or talking like them, but I don't think they're immature enough to go out and try to kill themselves or mutilate their bodies.
