I know alot of people have family history there, but come on, even rats desert a sinking ship and we are far from being as lowly as rats...

BTW - why spend billions to rebuild a constantly sinking city when they could be better spent helping the homeless, those without health insurance and our veterans (of which group I belong to)...

How many displaced people would exactly $1 billion find new homes for? Just think about it. The current estimate on rebuilding is $80 to $100 BILLION dollars...

Ok well I diagree sorry...

I mean its home for those people. Lots of people don't know anywhere else but New Orleans. What if your hometown was flooded? I mean wouldn't you want it rebuilt? Even if you didn't you'd have to move on and start all over again. Lots of people down there aren't rich and can't just pick up and move like that. Its not just history there...Its full of families, kids, elderly that don't have the resources to just pick up and start all over again. Plus there are lots of elderly people that don't have much family and wouldn't know where to turn. It would be lots of chaos and I'd feel sorry for the average working class families that live there.

Only if the ones who where displaced are the ones doing the rebuilding and not counting on someone else to do it.

I'm from a small town in Oklahoma and we got it by a tornado once and the citizens where the ones leading in the rebuliding, not the government.

for the same reason we'll rebuild LA or SF after The Big One or KC after a tornado, or plow out Buffalo 223 times every winter.....thats what governments do!

now, whether they're doing it competently....THAT'S another question!

Hey! If we can re-build Iraq, we can damn sure rebuild a city built in a bowl - simple just fill the bowl.

No, just let it sink into the water, and let the state become a lost legend like Atlantis.
