I just seen a question asking in a rude manner "what were the scottish and welsh doing to help?". I'm Irish and I feel pity for thoose who suffer, but the aragance of the question is a different matter! We care about it, as much as the English public cared about the tyranny and murder its country bestowed on Scotland, Wales and Ireland for centries.

What do you think?

as per my answer to the other question

the majority of the english people i meet daily here in manchester don't care either
i am -despite my avatar name english, born and bred in sussex
i have also had my house flooded out
the floods are no ones fault, and there's too much of a blame culture in society

OK- so the english have raped and pillaged the other parts of the uk
the famine queen had oats exported from ireland during the famine to brew ale, instead of feeding the starving

they put the highlands to the sword and torch

the welsh have suffered dreadfully as well

indeed the british have tyrannised people around the world- but some of the worst bastards involved were welsh scots and irish
leaving aside the recent troubles, thankfully seemingly over, and a continuation of the partition of the nine counties
is there anybody alive NOW who had decision making powers then?
could we not put aside our differences and look forward instead of back?

Well I'm from England and I definately care! We've been majorly flooded here n it's horrible!Luckily, at the moment, my flat aint been flooded but apparently, where I am the worst is yet to come, just round the corner from my house is flooded and the river's still rising and it's raining so it could get there very soon! Hopefully not tho!
All I can say is if I didn't live in England, or if Wales or Scotland or Ireland were flooding, I would care and feel for the people whose homes have been ruined, but I wouldn't think loads about it and I probably wouldn't try to do anything to help!
Hope my flat's ok n not drowning while I'm sat at work! :(
MY GHD'S WILL BE RUINED!LOL x

I would think by and far all but a select few in the UK greatly care about the flooding. I'm an American, neither a countryman nor of any English descent, yet I still care and empathize with those facing the flood and sympathize with those whose homes and livelihoods are affected. I'm confident the Scots and Welsh feel the same. Even if there is some small pleasure taken in seeing England have its share of problems, this is largely set aside when human tragedy comes into play. Regardless of which country did what and to whom, our societies are less interested in past injustices and clearly focused on our own current humanity and continued goodwill. I hope the rains dissipate and the rivers soon recede.

I think we can divide your question into two categories.
The first, "Do we care about the flooding?" can go into Current Events. The second, "Did the English care about the tyranny and murder its country bestowed for centuries upon Scotland, Wales, and Ireland?" can go in the History category. I think you're a clever Fenian, irishdecky, putting your feet into two different rivers at the same time!!

HELLO people but WALES has been flooded too you know.
Is the implication that; Wales and other UK countries don't care about parts of England being flooded? If so, England is not isolated and not the country up to their necks in it.

em i just read one of the answers and I would like to point out to whoever said it that you may be a UNITED kingdom but Ireland does not belong to it only northern Ireland, thank you.

and to the question, yeah i care an awful lot seeing as i have family there and all, but in all honesty there is not an awful lot we can do but send support and hope for the best

Don't judge everyone for the arrogance of one person. If we go by your rationale does that mean that we should bear grudges against every nationality that we have ever had conflict with since that start of time?
People were not nice back then. Some of them are not nice now but on the whole we are a caring nation.
I do not live in the UK but my family and friends do. So I for one do care a great deal.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

well we should care about the flooding because it is happening and it is affecting peoples lives and livlihood..in addition to claiming lives. Just this morning it was reported that a mother and her baby twins were trapped in their home. Unfortunately the twins died by the time they were air lifted.

However, we don't seem to be too concerned generally in London unless something is happening to us personally or our family or friends unlike the Americans who take great interest in things happening in the other parts of their country from where they reside...

We (Londoners) need to empathise a lot more with peoples sufferings....

Everyday people watch television reports. When something really bad happens, like a flood. People stop eating their dinner and think. Before going back to eating their dinner as if nothing has happened
