Because the U.S. Supreme Court declared that state laws banning abortion violated a woman's right to privacy under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Until the Court overturns that decision (Roe V. Wade), abortion will be legal.

It is consitutional and it is more important thing the writers of the Consitution every wrote that abortion on demand should never ever be question or regulated in any form or manner.
No matter the age of the woman or how well the fetus is devoloped.
If you question it you are the most evil thing that walks the face of the Earth.
Even if a minor is 9 months along and rape by a step father she should have the partial birth abortion without question nor should charges be filed.
<>
It became legal on federal level because of Roe v Wade.
Now for the sad news it was legal in some states and not in others but going along slowly.
Than Roe v Wade pushed it to the national level than the fur flew setting back years.
Those on edge that being abortion on demand without question or regulation and the other end should be illegal no matter what push people into camps they didn't want to be in.
The majority of people believe that abortion should be legal and regulated. Just like any other procedure.
However, we you got people who think a minor should all on her own with out any adult supervision is mature enough to make the decision that doesn't help. A minor girl can't get her ear's pierced without an adult.
Or like the partial birth abortion ban where the majority of people wanted it yet 1 president keep vetoing it.
Lets fast forward a few years Congress put a bill to pull out of Iraq and was veto by 1 president against the will of the majority.
In case #1 liberals thought that was the right thing to do and the will of the people should be ingored.
In case #2 liberals thought that was wrong thing to do because it ingored the will of the people.
Bottom line: We have some strange lines when it comes to morality in this country.

Both sides are right. A woman should have the right to do with her body what she wants as long as it doesn't hurt another human being. Problem is, at what point are you considered a human being? Some think it is at birth, that's why it is legal.
No one likes my suggestion. Any time a woman wants an abortion the answer is no. But, she should be able to have a surgery to have the fetus removed. If the fetus lives it was a human, if not, it wasn't quite human yet? Mean way to put it, but the point I am trying to make is no one aborts the baby. Mother still has to pay for the procedure, child may live, and grow up in an adoption agency or something.

Simple: 1972 Roe v. Wade decision. The Supreme Court held that, along with marriage, a right to choose is a right of privacy that government should not interfere with and could no longer place restrictions upon. There have been many changes to that law since then.

The percentage rape that happens every year and the percentage of teens having sex now that end up pregnant. Many need to learn what "No" means and how to control their urges. Mothers' need to learn how to talk to daughters about sex, diseases, birth control, responsibility and honesty. Fathers need to learn how to talk to their sons about sex diseases, safety, knowing when the girls are comfortable, responsibility and honesty.

Check this wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_in_the_United_States
I think each abortion case should be taken separately, instead of saying abortion is wrong or right.
