Odds are it is identity theft. However, there is always the possibility that someone entered a number wrong. Maybe when they opened this guys account, they accidentally inverted a couple of numbers when entering his SSN.

Check your credit report to see if there is anything on there that is not yours. If there is none then keep your guard up. It is very possible that there ID theft going on but it could still be just a mistake. Talk to your bank and ask them what they would recommend as being the next step.

Of course it is, without a doubt! Contact the Social Security Administration as son as possible, and get this straightened out, if not, it's going to cause so many problems later on. Actually, it already started. It could mess up your credit, and God knows what else.
I wish the best of luck!

No two people are supposed to have the same SSN.

Step One: Get a free credit report from annualcreditreport.com.

If you determine that identity theft has occurred, and you have either theft or unbelievable confusion, follow the checklist at this site:

It will take a long time to straighten out.

Good luck.

The fastest way is to call social security and give them your SS# number. Tell them what the problem is. You can call Trans Union toll free @ 877 322 8228 and get your free credit report.
