What is the climax of the movie, and what do the think the final message is?

well the climax pretty much started at the beginning of the party. then billy cut himself. it ended when mac choked nurse ratched.
as for the final message? that gets more tricky. this is the type of movie that can have multiple messages for different people. so it's hard to say. but maybe, "never give up"
personally i think the movie is about freedom. chief freed mac from everything. all the strife and complications in life. and then he himself rose up and was free.

The climax is more the penultimate action, the fight and subsequent choking of Nurse Ratched, than it is the labotomizing of McMurphy, and the chief's killing him, not only to end whatever low quality of life Randle would have had as well as not letting the patients see that Ratched had won by de-braining McMurphy. Tough book and tough movie.
