How old do you have to be to qualify to go to the Olympics in athletics?

I know in gymnastics the last time someone can qualify for the Olympics is at the World Championships in Sept. I know it depends on which country you are competing for but when is the last time a person can qualify and what is the criteria to qualify in atheltics?

Last I check there was no age restriction, if you are one of the top athlete in a particular sport from your country, you can participate.

Depends on your countries qualification trials. You have to run for example (my country) the Canadian Championships will serve as the Olympic Trials for the 2008 Summer Olympics the 2008 Olympic Trials are tentatively scheduled for July 11-13, 2008.
may enter a maximum of 3 qualified athletes
per event meeting the A qualification standard or 1 athlete per event if only meeting the B standard only,1 qualified relay team in each relay event,a maximum of 6 qualified athletes, must reach the qualification standards as set by the IAAF for each event from1 January 2007 (1 September 2006 for marathon events, combined events and race walking events) until 23 July 2008 for individual events and from 1 January 2007 until 16 July 2008 for relay events in

if by "athletics" you mean track, it depends by country. if youre still talking gymnastics, yes there is an age minimum, 16. and world's doesn't determine anything excpet what countries go. also, in rhythmic gymnastics, the countries who get gymnasts finishing in the top 20 win births to the games. the number of girls you get placed, up to two, are the number of births. then the top one or two, accordingly, at trials go to the games.

Each country before selecting has trails....and can be more than
one....each athlete needs to have a minimum timing or score
in order to be selected. Some countries have chosen even
border line cases....hence it is left for respective country olympic
committee.
