Yes. They use an emotional approach to simplify their listeners responses for them;

1. Set up a "horrible" situation.
2. Spin it to make "liberals" responsible for it.
3. Get emotional in concert with the listeners.
4. Everybody wins except the truth.

Close, but not quite. If I accept that they are still 'popular' which is a stretch, then it has to be because most Americans are really not that bright. Birds of a feather flock together. When they can't hang with the village smart person, most people become entranced and lured in by the village idiots--aka Hannity and Limbaugh.

I would think that they are popular because most of America leans to the right. Personally I think that they don't tell the whole truth on issues. I have listened and don't really care for either. They do make good points at times. I think that many liberals listen to them to get fired up. If you notice, they are not big Bush supporters but push for conservatism. I say that they are not big Bush supporters because Bush is far from conservative with his ever expanding role of government. I like some of what Bush has done and he has had many obstacles to overcome in his presidency. I do not like the amnesty idea at all. Hannity and Rush hit upon the things that most Americans agree with. I think that is their appeal. They also are a nice alternative to the more liberal networks.

you hit the nail on the head my friend. Limbaugh and hannity are on the far end of the spectrum. the other side does the same thing though. they all want the easy answer to the really complex questions. the only problem is that both sides think their right. hannity and Limbaugh are by no means the voice of reason that they present themselves to be.

While these guys definitely dumb down their rhetoric to appeal to a broader audience I think most of their listeners are just looking for someone to argue against the things they see that are not going right with society. I think most pundits, liberal or conservative, are loud mouthed idiots who blow every issue out of proportion just to get a reaction. I've listened to both of them a few times. They'll start off fairly rational, with a good point and then just carry it off the deep end to get a rise out of people. But they are saying what people want to hear so they keep up the act. It is not that people look to these people to tell them what to think. They look for people that say the things they are thinking in snappy sound bites that entertain them. But I guess that is what their fans like.

And yet it is the Libs that think we can...

1. Just all get along...there should be no hate in the world
2. Sacrifice our industrial engine to combat the "theory" of global warming
3. That we can give free health care to everyone without bankrupting our government
4. One's ownership of property should take a backseat to saving a slug, mouse, or some other insignificant pest.

If anyone lives in a simplistic world, it's Libs.

I like the question. It's more about common ideals than about "easy to understand". You are part right though. Having a shared set of core values means that even if you don't agree fully then you get the theme and can relate. In that respect it is easy to understand that person. If someone spouts off the "blame America first" line then most people role their eyes and change stations till they come to that guy who they feel at least is on their team.

No, not at all.

Both of them, I think Hannity more so than Limbaugh, bring conservative ideals to the forefront. The media has a tendency to try to shape ideas in people based on a bias. These two simply counter(balance)act that propaganda.

Yeah, it gives cons the fuel to think with so they don't have to come up with better answers, i.e. the truth, themselves.

Seriously, most of the "shock jocks" and I would categorize these two as such, are for entertainment purposes only and no one should take them seriously. They just appeal to those who want snappy put downs and come backs without having to use their noodles.

no, they are popular because someone wants to hear the other side of the equation --- they are not gettin it from the main stream media -- and now the liberals wanna close that with the fair media docturne -- remember there are usually two sides to all questions -- and we Americans need to have all the information we can get to make a decision, be if on taxes, health care and or our government... without those two and many more we are not getting the whole story.
