start up problem world of warcraft?

when i have been playing and lag out (im playing from iraq). sometimes when the screen comes back up to log in it will stay at the "authenticating" screen for hours. any clue why it does this?

i have checked the server status it is not down as of right now.

Only time I had that problem when I checked the server status page mine was down. So maybe the server was having problems.
