I have a lot of digital pictures and they are starting to use up all of the memory on my laptop. Other than burning the pictures to CDs, are there any other good recommendations for back up/storage so I can free up space on my PC?

I would recommend using an external hard drive, maybe something like a Western Digital My Book, which can hold 250GB , 500GB or more of data.

Just go to http://www.westerndigital.com and look it up there, or look it up on Ebay. They are very reliable and are quite robust.

An external hard drive is a good backup method because it is a fast way to transfer files.

If you want to get the most life out of your external hard drive, only turn it on when backing up files - when not in use, disconnect it from the computer and store it away.

The only way to back up files (pictures) so that you free space on the hard drive is to move them to another type of storage. This can be CD or DVD (usually under a dollar each). It could be memory sticks (but at $40 a gig that is expensive), an external USB hard drive, or a second internal hard drive (initial investment of $80 or more - but free after that).

You can go with an online storage, but remember that your pictures would not be available if you are somewhere without an Internet connection. But they are also available - even from another computer - if you do have Internet.

For most people the CD/DVD is the cheapest way to do backups.

You can buy an external hard disk which doesn't cost a fortune for a smaller gigabyte. External hard disk can save thousands and thousands of pictures if compared with CDs. Or you can buy DVD burner and burn all your pictures into DVDs.

DVDs have 4 gb of storage, while external hard disk ranges from 30, 60, 80, 120 (or maybe more) gb of storage space.

You can use Kodak gallery or Walgreen's. They save your pics for you & you can create cool albums that are put together for you, plus if you have ALOT of pics, they will always send you promotions for free prints & discounts! My friends & I had that same problem too!!
Good Luck!

Why not use a USB flash drive?
