An atom is the basic unit that matter is made of.
When the same type of atoms or different types of atoms combine, they form molecules.
Elements are pure substances that cannot be broken down into simpler substances. Some elements take the form of single atoms eg. neon. Other elements exist in the form of molecules made up of the same type of atoms. For instance, oxygen gas takes the form of diatomic molecules which are each made up of two oxygen atoms.
Thus, elements are made of molecules which are in turn made of atoms. However, some elements are monoatomic and are composed of single atoms.

Molecules are made up of atoms. Atoms themselves are elements. Each element is an atom. For instance, sodium (Na) is an element, hence 1 unit of sodium is a sodium atom. A molecule, for instance salt (NaCl), is a molecule made up of sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl).

‘Chemistry is the science of the composition and make-up of all matter’. (Atoms, Elements & Molecules in that order).
‘Matter’ is the name given to all substances encountered in our everyday lives and consists of many thousands of substances which themselves are made up of many elements (or pure substances), which can be found in nature and which can be thought of as the starting materials from which many other different materials can be made.
Chemical Elements: are defined as ‘Substances which cannot be broken down into Simpler Substances by chemical means’
Some elements exist alone, such as - Nitrogen, Oxygen, Carbon, Gold, Silver, etc.
Compounds: are formed from a chemical combination of two or more Elements in definite proportions, (as in salt NaCl).
Water is a compound of Hydrogen and Oxygen gases.
Compounds have many different properties to those of the elements of which they're composed.
The list of compounds found on earth is almost endless. Compounds cannot be separated by mechanical means - only by chemical reaction.
Mixtures: are physical combinations of any number of materials and have no definite proportion. Mixtures can be separated by mechanical means - such as filtration, solution, distillation, ..etc.
Atmospheric Air is a mixture of Oxygen, Nitrogen, CO2 and other gases, all of which can be separated by physical means.

element = pure material that cannot be broken down into simpler substances = elements are composed of only one type of atom
compound = pure material that can be decomposed into simpler substances by chemical means = compounds are composed of molecules = molecules are two or more different types of atoms combined
elements = one kind of atom
compounds = 2 or more different kinds of atoms
molecules = 2 or more atoms chemically joined
