Are you REALLY sure you want this??...once we have it, we will NEVER be rid of it....
Do we want the government employees who run the troubled Walter Reed Army Medical Center to be in charge of our entire health care system? Or, would you like the people who deliver our mail to also deliver health care services? How would you like the people who run the motor vehicles department, the government education system, foreign intelligence and other government agencies to also run our health care system? After all, they are not motivated by the quest for profits, and that might mean they're truly wonderful, selfless, caring people.

Not to mention how much they would have to raise our taxes. That sure would suck if the middle class was paying 50-70% like they do in some european countries.
Ive needed one surgery for a broken wrist and they never told me I was on a waiting list. They just scheduled it and it happened. Had they waited any, my wrist couldve healed wrong and once bone heals wrong, its virtually impossible to restore the original movement and feeling 100%. That happened to my mother in law's finger who had a poor doctor and did it wrong. With the healthcare my mom had at the time, I couldve chose any hospital and picked my doctor. Under social care, you take what you get and like it.
Govt is slow, dehumanized, inefficient, and expensive. I believe privatized medical care is the only way to go. Let the market and people decide!

Considering the fact that I have serious health problems that are going untreated because I cant afford insurance Yes I think socialized health care would be great. My husband has a good paying job for the area we live in. He makes a whole 18000 a year. They offer insuarance but it would cost 200 a month for me leaving us with a 1000 bucks to live off of. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, and could use a hysterectomey. I have 2 children that were born 2 and 4 months early that have special needs so working is not an option for me. Thank God that there is medical programs for kids now they just need something for adults. And by the way unless you are disabled, or old, or pregnant you cant get medicaid. I dont mind paying some of the costs but I have 300 bucks a month in medicine 175 for testing stuff and needles and a doctors vist runs 75 plus they do a lot of lab work everytime.

Ah, more lies and fear-mongering. Just another troll on here to make it seem as if there's a debate about health care among actual people. Don't be fooled folks. The so-called question this fellow has written is filled with red herrings, lies, half-truths and misinformation. It stinks of insurance industry talking points.
Tell me, which insurance company owns you?

You already have government controlled health care. Most of the laws that doctors and medical institutions have to abide by are archaic and dangerous. It's what drives costs up. That's how you end up with HMO's. They have to consolidate their resources to deal with it all. It is more likely that you will see government funded Health Care insurance that everyone can get. Of course the coverage would still be marginal and elective procedures not included. The liberals still won't be happy because they will have to continue paying for cosmetic dental implants and tummy tucks out-of-pocket.

Certainly not - but since nobody is advocating a nationalisation of the health care industry I do not see what difference it makes.
We want insurance for all Americans.
Why would conservatives not want a healthier workforce for thier precious corporations to exploit?

Government or even private employees who run the mail services DON'T run the Transportation department any more than doctors change oil down at the service center. Educate yourself on the facts of anything before you pass judgment on it's merits. Don't let the Media, government, or friends do all your thinking for you.

Every government run program is a mess. Those in charge cannot be prosecuted, unless it is a high degree felony. Stuff that happens in the private sector, which results in prosecutions, is overlooked when a government employee is concerned.
Government employees are almost impossible to fire, and if a case goes to court, the employee gets free legal reprentation from taxpayers. If the employees are inefficient and cannot get the job done, they cannot be fired. There is no profit incentive on any aspect, so everybody does just enough to get by.
You can go to Europe, insert your bank card, and get money from your account in the US, in seconds. The system will identify you, your account, check to see the balance, and transmit an approval. Yet the Social Security Adminsitration cannot find the thousands of duplicated SSN used by illegal aliens.
God help this country the day the government is in charge of our health care.

I don't want to see socialized medicine inthe USA. But if the current situation remains unaddressed--that's exactly what's going to happen.
Here's why:
We have a situation in which more and more people are uninsured--and companies are being given a free pass to cut programs and leave people hanging out to dry. The special interests--HMO's, nursing homes, pharma companies--have been given massive subsidies and have been allowed by the Bush administration to dictate public policy for their own profit. Ditto the whole issue of malpractice insurance, insurance people making medical decisions with no medical training.
Funding for public health, community health programs, trauma centers, etc. has been cut and cut again. And--like it or not--most of this has come from the neoconservatie GOP.
As a result--we have a health care system inthe US tha tis a shambles. And people are looking more and more at government inaction, special interests exerting undue influence, and skyrocketing costs--and then looking at the more socialized systems in many other countries. And are thinking that anything--even socialized medicine--is better than the mess we have now.
To summarize--either we get serious about reforming health care in this country in a way that restores the old blend of pubic AND private health care-or people are going to demand an alternative.
