Blue Screen of death Many questions?

It's my bosse's lap top, I have been working on it since yesterday. I am pretty sure it's a virus. Only problem I can't start up in safe mode. To run anything it kicks up the blue screen. My other problem was he had norton. It could not fix the errors it had 2. However I tried to update it , and then it wiped Norton out. I no longer have Norton. The questions I have, is there any way to get in to safe mode. I want to try to save it with out reformatting. Is that my only option. Does anyone know the name of this virus?

ok firstly can you get into windows if you can get in2 windows in normal mode than do this

as it may not be a virsus but if it isnt then this will fix any errors in the laptop simply do each tab going down in order slipping out the customize tab

Might be a main CPU going bad.

Best option for you, no lie is to take it to a PC expert and pay 100.00

They'll be able to diagnose it live, much better than anyone here can. you might have multiple problems.

If it is WIN XP, take it to a tech.

If it is win 98:
try booting to command prompt, just c:\
If that doesn't work you got a boot sector virus or some kind of drive problem, typically. take it to a tech.

But if you work for a medium size company, meaning not just you and three others, and / or he can afford it, don't waste time diagnosing it yourself. you might come out looking cool if you save it, but most times, the lost time in productivity won't be worth the money saved.

Beware if your boss has classified files, take it to a reputable as you can find place, that is bonded, etc.

Don't start off first try at a data recovery specialist place, they typically charge 450 and up.

You dont have a virus. a virus wouldnt cause this screen.

you need to take your hard drive out of your lap top. buy an adapter for your lap top hard drive so you can plug it into a desktop computer. once you do that you need to run scan disk or chkdsk for older operating systems on that hard drive.
if you cant get that adapter then the hard drive is screwed thats y its called the Blue Screen of Death there is no other way

It is very hard to say what kind of virus it could have been.

To save your information you could download a run-from disc operating system like ubuntu or knoppix, or use bart-pe to create a windows from disc.

I suggest downloading knoppix, since it also supports antivirus this way. Also look at this link:

Also: take a look at the blue screen of death, because it might not be a virus but a hardware problem. And those can only be fixed by professionals. Does it say it misses some files?

no idea about the virus but you could always put IT in a external 2.5" hdd enclosier and scan it from another pc
