very very very very very very fast velocitys (mabe not light speed but in that range) so we dont have to alwys be puttin around our little lifeless boring solar system.

if theres aliens life out in space observing us, they probly roll their eyes around and throw there green hands in the air when they hear earth peopl complain that space research is such a waste of time because theres nothing to see out in space.

We need to go REALLY FAST if we want to really explore dont you think?

Why aren't any physicists or scientists working on some way for humans to go at very fast velocitys (mabe not light speed but in that range) so we dont have to always be putting around in our little and lifeless and boring solar system?

If there's alien life out in space observing us, they probably roll their eyes and throw theire green hands in the air when they hear earth people complain that space research is such a waste of time because theres nothing to see out in space.

We need to learn to crawl before we run. With our current technology in order to go near lightspeed would take more fuel than we currently have, not to metion the amount it would take to stop to look. We are working on new technologies to enable longer spaceflights. but the focus is more on tackling the more important issue of surviving in space for the long haul than speed (even at light speed it is ten years to the CLOSEST star (other than the sun).

There are people thinking and working on these things. Solar sails and nuclear powered space ships and other things. See the sources. The links have to do with solar sails which I had read about and thought seemed like a good idea but the last article and there are others say that solar sails won't work. Well read for yourself. It's interesting stuff.

But to go at very fast speeds is difficult to do. The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. Since we are down in the 10's of thousand miles per hour this is a little tough. For arguement to make it a little easier, suppose we have a rocket that goes 36,000 mph. This is 10 mile per second (since there are 3600 seconds in a hour). So to go at about half the speed of light means you need to increase your speed by a factor of about 9000. Not easy to do.
Now think about this. Suppose you do have a rocket that goes really fast as you say. The galaxy we live in is about 100,000 light years across and we are about 30,000 light years from the center. So a round trip at almost the speed of light could be very short to the guys on the spaceship, to the people on earth over 60,000 years would have gone by. And the closest galaxy to the Milky Way is in the millions of light years you might get some idea as to the isolation that galactic civilizations are subjected to. Travel is very time consuming in the galaxy so unless it is a fairly near star everyone you knew would be long dead by the time you returned and the people who are there when you return might not even remember who you are, where you went or anything else about you. There may be no one at all if you are gone long enough. People can talk all the worm hole stuff and warp drives and this other sci fi stuff but that is just what it is. And if someone claims to know differently, have them show you. I am not an expert on these things but I am smart enough to be able to read relativity and other subjects to know that such things will never be and, if we lived long enough, I would bet any amount of money against these things ever being used to travel anywhere.

We really don´t need to go fast just be able to see very far. Soon we will be able to study the composition of the atmospheres of alien worlds and thus determine whether or not there is life there. All this from the comfort of our own labs here on earth. But to really study and examine a world there is nothing like a scientist on the ground actually doing the exploring. So while it may be possible for human to travel at light speed a method of my own "invention" requires some infrastructure to be built. And that requires the transportation of equipment in real space in non light speed. And for this to be worthwhile we need to find a really really interesting place to go to first. Because even at light speed going to a world say a mere 100 light years could mean that by the time you get there everyone you ever knew and loved would be dead. Quite a sacrifice and one few would consider making. I would but that´s me.

The easy answer is: they are!

However, it takes a lot of energy to move things very fast. The more massive the object, the more energy you need. For now, we are able to move sub-atomic particles (electrons, protons and some atoms) at speeds very close to the speed of light.

It is also complicated to build space vehicles that will transport humans and then move these vehicles at high speed (so many things that can break). It is easier (for now) to make robotic vehicles that can go out and explore for us. They need less moving parts, so less chance of breaking.

We have reached speeds of almost 50 km/s (over 110,000 mph) which, compared to the speeds we achieve on Earth, are very fast -- but in space, this is relatively slow (it still takes decades to reach the limit of our Solar system).

The people who complain about space research being a waste are misguided by the idea that the money spent on space would somehow go to them or their favorite project. It would simply go back to its original budget: war.

I agree with Raymond. They are.

However, we cannot limit the field to just among the physicists and scientists.

If have to bet my money on it, metaphysics would beat them.

And they might invite you to be their guinea pig. And you would soar into all points of the Universe at the same time, only to find that :

Boyhood is a summer sun
Whose waning is the dreariest one
For ALL we live to know is known
And all we sought to keep hath flown.
