By the media I mean TV, newspapers, newsmagazines and radio primarily. Should they be neutral until the potential candidate is nominated by a convention of a political party?

I believe that all journalists should remain neutral, period. Unless they are writing an editorial or other opinion piece they should make no effort to sway how I think. The news should be reported accurately and any quotes should be complete and unedited. The only place a journalist's opinion should show up is the opinion pages and should be clearly labeled as opinion. This is throughout the campaign not just until the conventions. At this time I do not trust the media to report the truth, I know that all too often I get opinion not fact. That is just wrong.

Newspapers and other news journalists are supposed to be objective! The opinion articles are in the editorial section. But we've let the mainstream (mostly liberal) media morph into not only a news giver, but also an opinion giver as well. How often now do you hear a reporter, or more likely the anchor, throw in a comment or two before moving on? You never used to hear that. Plus, look at all the darn news channels and news shows that are on now. It's overwhelming. When they cover the candidates, they should try and remain 100% neutral, explain the candidates platform, cover any news of note along the campaign trail, and leave the editorializing to the folks back at the studio who are paid to give their opinions.

Yes, they should be prevented from all the ballyhoo and crap they invariably invent and the mud they encourage people to sling, from which they engender focal points, which for the most part the candidates themselves are unaware of.

The seriousness of the media has long gone. After the debacle of the Bush administration - its time for addressing the affairs of the nation in logical, well founded arguments. First and foremost - home issues are to come first - take precedent at all times. Bush Senior didn't do it and, thankfully, got kicked out before he created even more problems. Unfortunately, the young Bush did it all for him!

Just the facts, let the facts speak for themselves! They should dig deep and present the truth to the public. The public must rely on the media to reveal the truth! They should give equal time to every candidate not just to Giuliani or Clinton!

They should be neutral at all times. If they are not, then it isn't journalism, it's propaganda. That is what we have today. I can't trust any of them.
