Your friend needs to stand up to her doctor and tell him/her to prescribe something that will get rid of it.

Another culprit to frequent UTIs is tub-bathing and swimming and sitting in hot tubs. Hot tubs in particular. My hubby is a maintenance tech for an apartment complex. He's required to check the chemicals in the pool and hot-tub... so frequently people are not behaving when using these things and they are teaming with bacteria.

Until this clears up... avoid tub baths, swimming, and hot tubs. Once cleared and she wants to soak in a long hot bubble bath... tell her to shower first, then sit in the bubbles. She will have washed off the bacteria already and will be able to enjoy a worry free tub soak.

The other thing to consider, is it may not be just her bladder. if she's having frequent UTI's I'd have her doc check out her kidneys. she could have reflux or some other condition.

If your friend is having recurrent urinary infections that is different from a chronic infection
recurrent is repeated separate attacks
chronic is the same infection that is not clearing
The chronic may be from failure to diagnose and treat with appropriate antibiotics
recurrent maybe due to repeated exposure to a cause.

However both probably need further investigation
It is always useful to be given as much information as possible-there is always a basic lack-her age obstetrical and gyn history.,hypertension past medical history -diabetes. Any infections as child

These all can have a bearing on giving an opinion. Her doctor obviously will have these.
What investigations have been done? I do not want to repeat
urine culture/microscopy
urea and electrolytes /creatinine/FBC/blood sugar
further investigations to examine urinary system-U/S IVP/cystoscopy/retrograde/micturating cystogram etc

I am sure many if not all of these tests would have been done.

If she has not been investigated then referral is indicated.

But please remember and any one else reading this post the more information you give the better and more specific and hopefully helpful the reply

Lay off carbonated drinks, caffeinated drinks, alcoholic drinks and make sure to empty her bladder totally after urinating. Don't wipe dry, pat dry. Do not bathe or wash with strongly scented soaps or scrubs. Wear breathable undies (cotton) and change pairs daily. Drink plenty of water. Other than these suggestions: a one-a-day everyday dose of JUST the trimethoprim works in most cases as well. Good luck!

She needs to be seen by a urologist (doctor that treats diseases and disorders of the bladder) to find out if she's dealing with something called Interstitial Cystitis or even kidney stones.

i agree with the two prior answers. all i have to add though is that i used to suffer from unexplained uti's and did everything i could to prevent them. they were the result of stress, how my body chose at that time to react to the stresses in my life. i worked on stress management, and along with the other remedies i got a handle on everything and haven't had one in 5 years. best of luck to your friend!
