The Balkan situation is going to cause more problems than anyone can truly fathom. Well, except maybe Russia, which is why they are fighting so hard to oppose the independence. But if you stop and think about it, if Kosovo is allowed to become an independent country, here is the precedent that will be set:

"Any ethnic group that can amass a population level greater than that of the indigenous peoples within a section of a country's borders can declare that land theirs, and as such declare independence from that country."

Think of the chaos that would result from this. You'd have new countries springing up left and right. "Wars of independence" would be fought all over the globe, with new alliances being forged. In short, it would be utter anarchy. Just stop and think about Africa: all the countries that are constantly embroiled in civil wars would be able to split apart. Or even Asia: all the provinces and domains throughout China and India alone could form dozens of countries. Then there's Europe, which has been struggling with it's own crises: Moors in Spain, Algerians in France, Turks in Germany, etc... And, let us not forget the US: how many breakaway republics can you imagine?

But you see, that's not even the biggest problem. The problem will come after they all gain their independence. No stable economies. No stable trade lines. And, for that matter, no country (currently) is truly self-sufficient. That's when the restructuring would begin. Those lands that have the greatest natural resources would be the ones to win their neighbors over. So, in essence, everything would just be running in a tumultuous, destructive cycle.

To Gerafalop: Clintler involved the West in the Balkans after he got caught with his pants down (literally). That was his diversionary tactic to avoid impeachment. Unfortunately, Dubya and his staff have decided to make it stick. The US now has military bases in Kosovo, and part of the agreement with the Albanians is that they'll let them steal the land if they in turn allow the US to keep the bases there.

Sure, and when Serbs and Montenegrins invaded north Albania to claim for themselves, the Albanian population there was around 10% as well, huh ?

Yugoslavia was doomed to fail, just like the USSR.
Yugoslavia is still breaking up, as is the USSR, so DEAL WITH IT !!!

Albanians were never "south Slavs" to begin with and I doubt the Turkic and Arab peoples of south USSR considered themselves Russian, either.

I do not see what your question has to do with President Bush. Clinton tried and failed to fix the problem in Kosovo.
