For the same reason all Brits drink tea like it's their job... Oh wait, not everyone does. While burgers are popular, people have different tastes. Burgers are a part of our culture but people don't ALWAYS eat them.

Because they're really, really good! Why do Indians insist on eating curry? Why do Chinese insist on eating rice? Why do Africans eat so many grains? Why do the French put butter and heavy cream in so many foods?

Why, in 2007, do people still feel the need to lump everyone from a certain country, race, or religion into one category??!!! People are not all the same, even if they do share a common background!

I think you are hanging out with a narrow segment of American society. Burgers are great eating, but if you are paying I'll have anything. Sushi, maybe?

Because they are a quick food and people in the US are too busy to cook or too lazy. Fast food is part of the problem of the epidemic of Diabetes in this country. When I was younger you hardly saw anyone going to fast food restaurants now that is all you see, because the women have no time to cook.

Summertime, yes it's a getting together around the barbecue thing.
We do it all the time at my house.
We have several vegetarians so there's veggie burgers for them.

I don't eat them, but yes, people make a big fuss about their preferred toppings and what they put in the ground-beef mixture and all of that stuff...
and barbecuing them is a summer tradition.
