me and my bf have been together for about two years. we met in college and he was always at my house everyday even though he had his own dorm/apt with his friends. we got along great and even bought groceries together and split the bill. now that we graduated he moved back in with his parents and i relocated near a job offer. we have been trying the LDR thing b/c we are 3 hours apart now but it is getting hard and we miss eachother too much. my boyfriend wants to move in, but he is not on the lease. what should we do until the lease can be renewed so i dont get in trouble with my landlord. should he rent a p.o. box address? when he gets a job should he tell the job his address is his old (parents) address or his new p.o. box address? when he signs the tax paper for work that ask what school district dose he live in, should he include his old school district or the school district closest to his p.o. box address?

First rule, no matter what, NEVER LIE! It does get you in trouble, actually if you get caught it ALWAYS gets you in trouble. If you already have a lease, just ask your landlord. I believe your boyfriend can just be added to the lease, it's usually an "amended" lease, or if your landlord isn't too "detailed" on details, they shouldn't see it as a problem.

Did you receive a pamphlet or "tenant" manual, so to speak, when you moved in? That could provide your answer. But the best thing is, is to ask your landlord. Don't forget you have neighbors, and they ask questions and they talk!

And, NEVER, NEVER, EVER, lie on job applications with false addresses, especially when it gets into taxes, that most definitely will get him in trouble! Actually, you can use a PO Box #, but you must always provide a street address for both job applications and especially tax information.

Your best bet is to simply ask your landlord. Your boyfriend may be asked to fill out the same paperwork you did when you signed your lease, but that's business. So if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about. People move in with their partners in apartments, condos, etc., everyday. And landlords aren't all "tyrants" (smile). If you've been a respectable tenant, I'm certain your landlord will welcome your boyfriend with no problem. Simple as that!

You tell your landlord, I want to add him to the lease.
Sneaking around can get you kicked out, or breach of contract problems.

Just tell him, we are gonna get married, we are pretty sure. I need to add him to the lease, since he is gonna be there anyway.

If he says no, then say, okay I need to move, when can I be out?

If he doesn't give you a date, then say, we got problems. Walk out. Seek a lawyer.

Final option, if your lease says only you, then you got problems, try to find a new place, and good luck.

Check your lease. There may not be a restriction on how many people that can live there. If there is, call your landlord, and ask if he will revise the lease to include your partner.
