i was about to answer a question reltated to hitler, and yet it got shut off by yahoo. why did they do that? people possibly complained.

By doin g that they have effectivly found a way by means of "people got offended" to prevent information from being learned and taught.

if it offends you, ignore it
we have no rights anymore

Funny. One of my answered was deleted recently and according to the people who run yahoo answers it violated their so called TOS. Yet my answer which they emailed me to indicate why it was in violation had nothing wrong with it. It merely stated to prove their comment is right and guess what? it was removed. Of course I emailed back expressing that the only reason it was flagged was due to not agreeing with the poster of the question.

Maybe they should actually READ the questions and answer before assuming they are offensive.

Yahoo has taken such tremendous positive strides recently in taking peoples opinions seriously, I am surprised that you were cut off. I have seen many more flagrant violations of their printed code of conduct in almost every classification of ANSWERS.
I don't know what will happen to this answer as I don't want to get on the bad side of whoever the monitor's are & be tagged as a not desirable customer. I am still to new at the complexities of the new YAHOO & still trying to learn.
It worries me that now that everyone knows that HITLER was a TRULY EVIL MAN that is there are still constant questions & answers all over the world as we learn more & more of the facts of his time in power.
I would like to see "ASK MIKE" to ask a question addressing this very issue so that persons who answer questions will have a little better knowledge of how a determination is made.

Yahoo are the law here.
Your government is not.

There is no freedom of speech as you know it here. They will censor what they wish to censor and generally speaking there is not a single thing you can do about it.
They cannot... however... keep you here against your will. Much as their rules are in effect within the confines of this site, the consequences of breaking those rules likewise only exist within the confines of this site.

I agree.

Hitler was bad news and did things that were grossly inhuman and immoral. But that doesn't mean that we should not mention him nor try to understand his insanity.

I think that by removing questions about Hitler, by striking reference to him from the record, we are only enabling something worse than Hitler to come about.

Where censorship exists, rights violations surely follow.

No, the rule of the game for the majority wrong is:

"If you are right, your're offensive;
If they are wrong, it's their freedom of speech."

This is the slogan of the Liberals, the socialists and the American's Democrats Political Platform; and you are hearing it from a non-American !

freedom of speech in "real life" is perfectly allowed. it was in an internet context, where people may have been offended, and yahoo would have been "condoning" what you said if they didn't remove it, where freedom of speech has to be limited - cos someone else is effectively responsible for what you say.

not saying that what you were going to say was necessarily offensive, but some people are, so i guess they have to be careful.

Thats because this is an open public forum that is privately owned by Yahoo. That means Yahoo can do as it pleases.

I think for this site it's because minors can access it, so they have to be seen legally to be monitoring the site to protect them.

there were a few questions involving Hitler over the last few days, maybe try wording it differently?

I appreciate the editing because it keeps the dialog from degenerating into a bunch of hate and ignorance like other discussion boards.

freedom of speech does NOT imply "without consequences".

freedom of speech does NOT apply to private space.

things like YA and other internet forums are private spaces.
