My dad offered some advice by means of an observation:
"The human mind can rationalize anything."
He told me this when I was expressing outrage over something I heard on a TV news broadcast. It stuck with me.
If you KNOW an act you are about to commit is wrong, do not look to justify it. While can always find a justification, it doesn't make the act any less wrong.
Despite whatever faults he may have had, he was unquestionably a decent man.

Dad quotes "aim for the moon because if you miss, you'll still get a star". Both my parents encouraged me to 'live' my life as much as I could - loads of learning, travelling, sports etc... it has made me into a happy confident person and I don't really have any regrets as to wishing I'd done something with my life 'cos I've already done loads! Now my fiance and I are carrying on in the same way.
The best advice overall was to continue with my faith, I have an active life in my religion, and a good relationship with God (which I'm always working on!). I have a hope for the future which keeps me going through this mad world.

My parents have given me three really great pieces of advice:
1) Get a good, solid education in a field that will keep you stabily employed for as long as you want to work.
2) Save, save, save at least 25% of any money you make.
3) Never, ever submit to group mentality. Always go against the herd.
4) Don't take life so seriously...it's NOT permanent!

When you first get married dont be too capable! otherwise you will be left with all the house work, ironing, childcare etc. Flap a bit and look helpless - the sooner they get used to pitching in and helping out the better.
Worked wonders - something every young girl should be told!!

Can I cheat a say my primary school teacher from age 9 -11 told me to live by my own standards.
My mother told me to 'treat men like children', I never understood what she meant and therefore I didn't take her advice seriously - but I'm beginning to see her point.

Always walk with your head high as you have nothing to hide.
Also, spend as much or less the money you have in your pockets, never be in debt- the value of money is important even though it makes end means, still it can't buy you happiness.

Men with very blue eyes are untrustworthy and men with one eyebrow are criminals. Oh and the best one, if you have hair on your big toe then you are a lesbian. My parents are nuts!
