I LOVE the Magic Erasers, Try one out, they will be your best friend for life! Walmart has a generic too for half the price and works just as well!

Mr. Clean Magic erasers don't work on everything. Although I do admit I like them lots, if you're using them on a dark painted wall, you may find that once you're finished, the part that you washed has changed color, as Mr. Clean uses bleach in his sponges and this affects colored paint.

Here's an easy solution to try and it won't harm your walls.

Put baking soda on a damp sponge and lightly wash the area that is soiled. This should take care of it all.

First I'd try the Magic Eraser. If that doesn't do the trick I'd call a cleaning company that cleans up after fires. They have special chemical sponges that will clean up soot. I had this done when I had smoke damage and they told me to NEVER try to clean up smoke damage because it just smudges the damage more. They have special sponges for this and I'm sure if you ask them that they'll sell you one. Soot is awful to remove and if you clean it wrong you can make the damage worse..

Try Murphy's Oil soap and water. With a clean, wet cloth, wipe down only once. Then turn the cloth and wipe down only once. Do not scrub, or make swirl patterns or get the cleaning water dirty.
If this does not work, hang something over the spot.
