If memory serve me right, a lot of Frenchman could speak English well, but they hate to use it. do you know why?

I just learn something about Hundred Years War between France and Britain in 14 century.
A lot of people died in this war including French female hore Jean of Arc. therefore, when Frenchman wake up in the 4 o'clock and think about this war, they hate Englishman to die.

This is why they don't likes speak English in my opinion.
Am I right?

I share a belief with many French people:

if English speakers can't be bothered to learn even the tiniest bit of the language, even when they visit, then why should we reïnforce their view that 'nothing matters other than English.'

It shows how far this Anglo-centrism has gone, when people complain about speaking your own language in your own country!

Best wishes,

C.s.

Well, William of Normandy, the man who conquered England in 1066 was from France and French was the first language of much of the nobility until after the time of Richard couer-de-leon (heart of the lion in French) of course his mother war Elinore of Aquitaine (a Frenchwoman). There has always been tension between France and England. Since the British monarchs held territory on the mainland in what is now France and the borders were constant war zones. Even in the third crusade, Philip of France left early leaving Richard of England in the Levant. Richard had to make a hasty treaty with Salah-al-Din and hurry home to protect his kingdom from the twin threats of his younger brother Prince John who was trying to garner support to overthrow his brother and Philip of France who wanted to take Richards continental possessions. Of course Philip was also mad that Richard had reniged on his betrothal to Philip's sister because he claimed (apparently correctly) that Henry, Richard's father had already deflowered her.

Well I don't talk to them in French when they come over here, so I don't expect them to speak English when I go over there, not to much to ask to prefer to speak in your native tongue in your own country, now French tourists speaking French abroad is stubborn
