I would be flattered that he liked me enough to ask but would not go. I think it would be uncomfortable, he is a stranger and you know nothing about him. Furthermore how well would this be accepted at that particular prom or formal? I am assuming that we are talking about two guys here. Would you be setting yourself up for grief and taunting from others? I wouldn't want to spend my evening going through it. I think I would decline by saying you are flattered by the invitation but you would rather get to know him better before attending an event like that. Providing you are also gay and you would like to get to know him better. If you are not gay the answer is obvious.

If he was a friend of my friends bf or something or he was in my class I would feel pretty comfortable with him asking. I would probably want to all meet up for pizza or something before just to make sure we werecompatible or had similar interest. Have you ever seen people go to a dance who don't dance or talk-they just sit next to each other staring out at others around them. Awkward. Given the way you stated ? you somehow have a class or mutual friend so it is not like you are a complete stranger.
Good luck

I think you should ask her to do something else first so you two can get to know each other better. Then, if it seems like you get along, ask her. Otherwise, forget about her, and try someone else. Hope you have enough time.

It would be flattering, unless he was creeping in the way he asked (like followed me for a week before!) and as long as i wasnt taken or anything, I would seriously consider it.

Gosh, if you don't talk to her how do you know she's avabible or even interested in going to the prom? You should ask because she just might say yes.

I'd want to get to know him a little bit first, it would be very forward for you to just go straight up and ask her, and i wouldnt want to go with someone who i didnt know at all. Go get to know her, quickly !

Go for it! If she rejects you, no big deal. Blow it off. If she goes with you, then you may have the beginnings of a very exciting relationship. Do it...
