.NEF files are Nikon RAW files. You will have had software supplied with your camera to deal with these, but there is also a plug-in available within Photoshop (and also Paint Shop Pro). Don't destroy your RAW files however - they are the equivalent of a dgital 'negative'. The do not lose information whe manipulated - unlike JPG files.

You can use the software that comes with the camera or Adobe Photoshop or Elements or Light Room. Your RAW files are in 16 bit. Do your adjustments and then set your conversion for 8 bit. (jpg does not support 16 bit). If you are putting your images on the web or sending to a commercial lab, be sure and choose srgb color conversion. If you are using an older version of Photoshop, prior to CS3, you may have to update (go to your pull down menu) to get the RAW file profiles for the Nikon D200. Bibble is another program that will also process RAW files. There are several others, but these are my choice.

I think you'll need to use the Nikon software that comes with the camera, unless Photoshop RAW plug-in can handle NEF.

it is quite simple in photoshop open the file go save file a box opens inside there is a box if you click on your file you can save it innumerable formats jpeg is not necessaryily the best format for saving as it deteriates every time you alter it or open it a tif holds more information example pixels, colour. if you test save one in tif and one in jpeg you will see the diffreances in file sizes thought this might help

If you can open the file into photoshop simply use "save as" and select the file format you want to use - jpg.
