that saddly, young children will be neglected again by way of being left alone to fend for themselves, and if the police try to prosecute the other neglecters, the maccann case can be used a a point of reference, by the other neglecters in any futher prosecutions, to stop them.

toietmoi, a presedent is, to do for the first time, so futher cases can use as a point of law, remember the presedent has to be in existance first for it to be brought into a court of law, and when its in the court, its is then that the court sets it into law, ok

I agree totally ... If the mccanns get away with it then the case will be used in order to protect neglectful parents from facing the consequences of their actions..

This must never happen as children have rights and the law should protect children from suffering ...

The mccanns should be ashamed of themselves for trying to evade prosecution ...

Not only will be be guilty of maddie but possible numerous other children ...

It is so wrong ... Child abuse is a huge thing and children must be protected by parents and the law

How will Kate and Gerry McCann be able to face their other two children and say that they did everything within the bounds of 'good parenting'? What ramifications does this have for the future when these children are old enough to read and understand what happened.

I do not think the McCann parents will be prosecuted - but hundreds of thousands of pounds of the taxpayers' money will be spent investigating this case of reckless negligence. The McCann parents will be 'let off' and the courts will cite that 'they have suffered enough' at the hands of the media and the International public.

And they'll probably be relocated somewhere at the taxpayers' expense, just like what happened with the two boys who murdered Jamie Bulger and that despicable woman Maxine Carr.

At the end of the day, the only one to have suffered in all of this is Maddie.

But then, wouldn't she be better off without these kind of parents?

I have felt as many others have - that there's something not quite right with this case of a missing little girl. I feel for ANYONE that's lost a child in such a way.

I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy & I don't like kicking people when they appear to be down.
I don't have a clue about the circumstances on that fateful evening & therefore don't like to pass judgement without facts.....HOWEVER one fact does' speak loud & clear........ the fact that these parents left their 3 children all under the age of 4......alone, not just one night (although even that wouldn't be acceptable) but on every evening they were on holiday.

As hard as the reality is, someone's head has to roll for this. If I were a teacher & I took away pupils of the school in which I taught, to go on (for example) a boating holiday & because I failed to watch the children, one or more were to lose their lives......yes I'd pay with guilt for the rest of my life for my mistakes, but I would also still have to stand in a court of law & answer for my neglect.

You're absolutely right about this case setting a precedent if the McCanns' actions on that night are ignored & brushed under the carpet as it were.
As hard as it seems to some to have them prosecuted - they cannot be seen to be getting away with what is a clear case of neglect. They're in the public eye...their actions would without a doubt have an influence on others.......they shouldn't - but the fact is.....they will.

i completely agree with you!!!! it's like letting a drink driver off the hook after crashing into another car and killing someone, the next time it happens they'll say...well....you let the other one off, why are you only prosecuting me?

Drink driving is against the law, child neglect is against the law, how can some say "they're suffering enough with the loss of their daughter" would these people also say "a drink driver has suffered enough, they'll now have to deal with killing someone"

drink driving is a choice, leaving toddler's alone is a choice, weather you "only drink drive whilst your on holiday" is irrelevant, it's against the law and puts other's in danger, much like child neglect - it's against the law and put's the children in danger!

you can't let the McCanns off because they're "suffering enough" you could say that about anyone who's comitted a crime or killed someone, what the McCanns did was wrong, disgusting and pure child neglect, however "bad" they feel now has nothing to do with the fact they neglected their three toddler's EVERY NIGHT for a week - END OF!!!!

lets be clear, the mother that left her 2 and 4 year old, pleaded GUILTY to child cruelty. then the judge gave what he considered to be an appropriate sentence. it might not what we feel is ok, but the crime was prosecuted and admitted. compleltely different to the mccanns who are trying to convince everyone that they did nothing wrong. there is also another huge difference in the 2 cases in that no actual harm came to the 2 kids in lancs but M has either gone missing or been snatched. making what the mccanns did even worse. I beleive that the lack of media and authority condeming of the mccanns sends out the wrong message.

Oh look, the sad troll who tried to impersonate me, Miss Principle's and The Happy Murcia is back with the name "man overboard". Who do you think you're kidding small boy? Don't think much of your promised war.

Looks like even more truth about the McCanns has come out in the past 24 hours: http://www.express.co.uk/comments/viewal... You're on a loser you idiot.

It doesn't matter how many trolls, lawyers and blind supporters the McCanns have - the truth will out in the end. It always does. Look at Jonathan Aitken and Conrad Black for example - all the money and influence in the world to cover up their crimes and the truth still outed. The McCanns are beginners compared to those guys.

You have got a point and it would set a precedent.

Greenykit: Do you see any grief on their faces? And as for eating out at a restaurant once in their lives - do you actually read the questions which are posted? This "eating out" was apparently more than once - let slip by ma senior. The whole point is - they left their kids and now they've to take the consequences. So it's about high time they admitted they did something wrong - people would have thought more of them for it.

Manoverboard: You forgot about me!

It will make no difference to me whether the McCanns are prosecuted or not.

I would not ever leave my children alone in the house or in a hotel room or appartment either in this country or in any other country. Nor would I have done before this happened.

Whilst I cannot speak for other people, I can't believe that children will begin to be neglected as a result of the McCanns not being prosecuted. The kind of people that will leave their children unattended will continue to do so regardless, I very much doubt it woulkd enter their heads.

yes sadly, precedents have been set, only last week a woman who left her two under-fives alone in middleton, rochdale, lancs from 10..00pm until 12.00 midday the following day whilst out on the lash was given a few hours community service and £50.00 costs
gerrymander mccann will probably receive a bloody knighthood for "raising the profile of child abuse"
the primary abuser of this poor wee baby is her own damn father for
a) not protecting her from harm sufficiently
b) self aggrandising and promoting himself on the back of her misery

man overboard- how come i don't get a mention?-please go and see your GP, they will understand and be able to help you
