My computer died earlier and I was working on it, so therefore I could not pay attention to him. He kept following me around the house begging for my attention, finally walking right in front of me and pissing all over the carpet.

I'm not sure if hes fixed or not, but I don't think it was spray as it didn't smell, it was just yellow liquid.

Was this him showing his anger at me that I wasn't paying adequate attention to him or is this beginning of him spraying all over the house?

Hes never had a problem using the box before (well in the few weeks I've had him).

Cats live on attention by their owner. He was probably pissed! lol

More than likely the cat was stressed out and was showing you this. When a cat sprays they normally back up to an object/wall and their tail will be erect and it will twitch. What they spray is a small amount of very concentrated urine.
I recommend cleaning the area where he urinated with an enzymatic cleaner designed to neutralize the odor so the cat doesn't come back to that area again.
If the cat does urinate outside the box again, I would recommbed a visit to the vet to figure out if he is altered or not or if there is an underlying medical condition causing him to do it. Most cats will not go outside the box without a reason. He could have an infection or blockage, maybe his diet was changed suddenly. There could be another cat in or around the house that he is trying to scare off by marking the house as his.
So, make sure the box is clean, the house is calm, give him plenty of attention, and visit the vet to figure out if he's fixed. If he isn't then I would recommend getting it done asap.

1. Find out if he is neutered. Ask the vet or just touch his balls and see if they are there or if it is just an empty pouch. If he is not neutered, neuter him. Because if he wasn't spraying this time,he will do it eventually unless neutered.
2. It is possible that he was trying to get your attention. It is also possible that he may have a urinary tract infection or crystals. If he does it again I would suggest to have a smaple of urine analysed.

You dont know if your own cat is fixed? I would make sure he is. Then, make sure he doesnt have a urinary tract infection, which causes cats to pee outside of the box to try to let you know something is wrong. People always assume cats are trying to be rude by doing it, but there is often an underlying problem.

It could be he was mad at you or it could be that his litter box needed cleaning, my cat will use something else if his box is dirty.
