i dont have a stone or whatever i just want an easy way to sharpen my poketknife if it dulls in the wild
i was watching man v wild where bear used sand to sharpen his knife... is this a good idea? and how do u do it?

I would just buy a moderatly priced sharping kit or tool.
While i am out in the field i carry a diamond sharping stone and a quick action gerber sharpener.

I prefer using sharpening stones and a guide for my knives. It comes in a box, clamp the knife in the vise that is in the set it has guides that attach and you just sharpen away. It's not fast though. If you have an already sharp knife that is a little dull get a steel and a strop. I don't strop my knives but a good steel will help that edge last longer. The easiest way to sharpen a knife that I know of is get one of those hand held sharpeners that have the slots for your knife one slot has a coarse stone set at the correct angle and the other side has a fine stone set at the correct angle. The only problem is that all knives are set at different angles I sharpen mine to a 20 or 25 degree angle. The smaller the angle i/e 15, 10, so on the more like a razor blade your knife is but that edge will fold over really easily. I wouldn't recommend the sand trick unless I was lost in the wilderness my self. CRKT and several other knife companies make pocket sharpeners. Also CRKT makes a knife called the EDGIE, it is a self sharpening knife only it isn't a lock blade so you have to be careful. It doesn't have a razor sharp edge but it is sharp enough to do basic utility work.

PLEASE DO NOT DO ANYTHING THAT IDIOT BEAR DOES ON HIS SHOW!!!!!! Most of the stuff he shows you will get you killed and he only does it for entertainment purposes. Buy a small handy knife sharpener. They really make it easy and you can find some super cheap ones as well. Get one that all you have to do is pull you knife through. Simple as that.

Get a glass bottle and try to cut the neck off it with the knife!! Works like a charm. Same with scissors!

Some places like BIG 5 will do it for a reasonable fee.
I take knives to my butcher, he is happy to do it.
