Im 16 and I thinking of getting a breast reduction. Im terrified to be honest.. But I dont think its safe for a young person to have a big chest they cant handle. Ive been chesty since I was little and my back is already starting to kill and Im having a hard time breathing. Ive been made fun of when I was in elementary for being 'too mature'. Im not fat. Like its not because of my weight. Its been there ever since puberty. Its genetic. Should I consider it? Should I wait? Are there any important things I should know before going under the knife? Or whatever it is they use.

Well we still use knifes, 16, You need to talk with you family doctor and tell him/her about your problems that you are having. If you are having back pain and so on it would be a good idea to have some of it removed. Just make sure it is being done for medical reasons and not cosmetic. If it is done for medical reasons insurance should cover it. If they say it is for cosmetic reasons then you will have to pay for it all out of your own pocket. That can be very expensive. That's why I say consult a Doctor and let them decide as to what action would be best for someone your age.

Hello Sara, I totally understand your sentiment. I started growing boobs when I was in eight. Imagine how big it got when I reached puberty. I was often tease by my friends. Thank God, I live in a conservative country where it's a sin to make fun of a woman but I did attract lot of Attention. By the time I reached 20, I'm wearing a 38DDDD size bra. I live in the Philippines and Im half chinese where Bcup is consider big. Im having back ache and headache and I feel so ugly eventhough like you, Im not fat. It wasnt genetic for me since I Im an Asian. I have an abnormal hormones that made my boobs grew huge. At the age of 23, I had enough...I went to the doctor and have it removed. The thing is, I wasnt scared. All I can think about is how beautiful and normal Im going to look after the surgery. And I can RUN again! I had the surgery at 12PM and I woke up at 3AM the following day. It is painful but tolerable for me. After two days, I went home and my family are very supportive and they take good care of me during my post op. Im now 26 yrs old...38B cup. I can dance, run and my self confident was restored. Of course, there is the scar but that was nothing compare in having a new life! The breast reduction is the best thing that happened to me!

You should definitely consider it, or at least look into it. There is no harm in making an educated decision though, before you choose whether you want your breasts reduced you should sort through the myths and facts and learn about the procedure and how you will be effected or benefited post surgery.
Breast Reduction is about a 3 hour procedure, and they two main types of procedures are the Anchor Lift/ also called the T-Incision, and the Vertical Incision, both are done while you are under anesthesia, of course. You can find more in depth information about breast reduction (mammoplasty) here: http://www.newimage.com/cosmetic-plastic-surgery/breast/reduction-overview.aspx. This should clear up any questions that you have about having this procedure done, and it also connects your with doctors in your area.

You are only 16, so unless your breasts are causing you so much pain you cannot do any daily routine activities a PS most likely will not operate on you. They will possibly want you to wait a few more years, until they are sure you are done growing.
I was also big chested at your age and Feb 2006 I finally got a breast reduction. It is totally worth it and I only wish I got it done sooner.
Check out these sites:

http://www.bfar.org
The first one is an excellent support and FAQ site and the second one talks about breastfeeding after reduction.

You are still growing. Check you height & weight. If you consider yourself heavy for your age, then you need to reduce your weight. Your breast will also trim down if you reduce your weight. Out breast goes with our weight. The more heavy we are, the more our organs become. Do not touch any part of your body not until you stop growing which is probably at 18 years.

Breast reduction surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Tour2india4health Consultants .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.
Tour2india4health Consultants is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
