Your question seems to presuppose that the Gospel is about success and happiness. I suppose many of the health and wealth preachers on TV have contributed to this notion so it is hard to criticize anyone for thinking this is what Christianity is all about. The bible does say that the ungodly are often happy and successful. One example of this can be found in Psalm 73. Another great passage to read to get a biblical perspective on this issue is 2 Corinthians chapters 1-6. Paul makes it clear that the Christian life involves suffering and sacrifice. God does not promise us pleasant circumstances and constantly happy feelings.

The Gospel message is that we are all sinners -- rebels against our creator. God's goodness mandates that he be eternally opposed to evil. Therefore he is just and his justice must be satisfied. He is also, however, love so he makes a provision for our salvation in the person of his Son. Those who put their sincere faith in him as Savior come into a life changing relationship with him that makes us willing to spend ourselves for the eternal good of others. As for pleasantry and happiness, these things will be properly sorted out in eternity.

Just because people are ungodly doesn't mean in anyway that God loves them less. If you believe in a God and a afterlife the successes of this earth don't matter. We are on this earth to learn, most importantly about love. So no matter how successful and happy a person is it doesn't compare to what our real home is like with God. Even if you were the wealthiest happiest person alive it still isn't close. We think its not fair that this person has this or that but in reality our time here is so short and those things are not really important in the grand scheme of things. Also, I have met a lot of the upper class elite in our society and from what I have gathered they seem less happy then middle class. They seem to always be worrying about something. Also, there are many happy and successful Christians as well.

You are working on the flesh of yourself, I am happy for you , if that is what matters to you being successful here on earth. You can have both. You can be a happy successful Christian. You can change your mind and find out more about a happy Christian life, if thats an idea for yourself

Good question -- there are whole books of the bible that deal with that precise topic. One is Ecclesiastes, the other is Job. King David also spent a lot of energy bemoaning the fact that sinners seemed to be prospering.

I think the underlying message God gives about that is this:

The way of the wicked is treacherous and unstable. They are building their houses on sand - the slightest wind will blow them down. Their "success" is temporary and illusory; instead of envying them we need to pray that they would know the Truth.

But yeah, I struggle with this also. The bible helps us understand it.

Psalm 37
1 Do not fret because of evil men
or be envious of those who do wrong;

2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.

The Christians will never admit it, that all their religion does is give them fear and guilt.
