Symptoms of hypothyroidism (underactive) may include, weight gain, dry skin, dry thinning hair, muscle and joint aches, hedaches, sensitivity to light, fatigue, depression, mood changes, IBS with constipation, feeling of fullness in th throat, sleep apnea, ridged fingernails with no moons, decreased sex drive, voice may deepen, fertility issues, low blood pressure, low body temp, cold feet and/or hands, and slow heart rate.

I had almost all of these symptoms when diagnosed. My very first test did not show the condition because I tested in the afternoon and a TSH test should always be done first thing in the morning because TSH is highest while we sleep and lowest around 2PM. If possible get a TSH, Free t4, free t3, and an antibody test. Also find out exactly what your results were, as most labs have outdated ranges. A TSH of 3.0 or above should be treated with thyroid medication.

Below is a good thyroid forum, so you can read up on the condition some. That way, you;ll know what to discuss with your doctor.

I have always had an underactive thyroid, and have been taking thyroxine for about 20 years now. Unusually I don't put on weight, but I think that's down to metabolism.
The symptoms I had at the beginning were - extreme tiredness (sometimes I would sleep twice during the day) and lethargy. Now I get by with a little cat nap, whenever I sit still for more that 30 mins.

Ultimately the symptoms of under-active thyroid are often so subtle they are often missed and only a blood test can pick up the disease. The classic symptoms are tiredness, sluggishness, feeling cold and slow. The hair becomes dry and sometimes sparse, the skin dry and the pulse may be slow. Sometimes there is accompanying weight gain. The condition is also usually inherited.

If you are concerned a simple blood test will put your mind at ease.

Normally an underactive thyroid (hypothyroid condition) leads to a slow metabolism, weight gain, lethary, fatigue and sensitive to cold. Dry and rough skin also. Except your intolerance to heat, you have the other symptoms and the best way is to get a blood test done for T3, T4 and TSH.

Some thyroid disorders can be cured, but many require lifetime treatment. Learn here https://tr.im/URtgp
For example, sometimes early stage thyroid cancer can be cured by surgery to remove the thyroid gland, but you will need to take thyroid hormone medication afterwards for the rest of your life. Goiters can also be surgically removed and do not always recur after surgery. In most cases, thyroid disorders need treatment over a lifetime. However, with treatment most people with thyroid disorders can live normal, healthy lives.

Weight gain and lethargy (feeling very tired) are two of the main symptoms. Your inability to fall asleep probably comes from your concern about your thyroid rather than an actual symptom of it. There are easy blood tests to diagnose thyroid problems, go see your doctor.
