I suppose... but it would depend on how loud you sing and what style you sing.

All forms of activity burn calories. I don't know if singing really qualifies as exercise but technically it counts.
Music is not only a mental workout, esp if you are reading music, it is a mental HEALTH boost. Assuming you are enjoying yourself, singing puts you in a good mood. When you have a good attitude, you are taking better care of yourself all the way around and it puts you in a better frame of mind to do productive things. Plus if you are singing, you can't very easily stuff your face.As such, being involved with music you may find yourself distracted from LESS healthy things. At the same time, it might also distract you from exercising...if you are a student for example, who needs to choose between joining a sport, and a choir, and you want to lose weight...well, you are better off on a team.
Singing, if you really train to do so, and do it correctly is also a form of aerobic exercise. Proper singing involves breathing correctly and singing in phrases...that is to say, calculating breaths and budgeting your air, so you have to learn to breathe efficiently. And my choir teacher in high school had us doing situps to help with abdominal muscles, indirectly strengthening and supporting the diaphragm which is an important singing muscle. That can't hurt.
All this to say, singing alone won't get you thin, but it certainly can't hurt to have music in your life.

Only if you sing like crap and you are singing for your supper. Then you would probably starve, and waste away.
