I asked a friend why won't a cheater leave their long termed relationship since it's obviously not up to par thats why they are cheating . right?

And the friend said,..

Cheaters will cheat because it is easy,
Leaving isn't.

What are your thoughts on this?

I believe your friend is correct! Cheating is a game to those that do it. If they continue to get away with it, it's easier to get what they want/need from someone else rather than go through the heartache, drama, and possible divorce and monetary issues that go with leaving their partner. It's also the feeling of getting caught, some thrive on that thrill. It's exciting to them and they are pulled into a false sense of security because they believe they are doing their partner a favor by not leaving and still getting what they need on the side. In most cases, cheaters seek in others what they think they are lacking in the relationship.......only to find that the double life they are leading is also lacking in one way or another.

Your friend is right. Add to that the fact that it's 'once a cheater, always a cheater'. Once you cheat on a person, and destroy that special bond between husband and wife, there really isn't any going back. If you can't be honest with your spouse you'll never be honest with anyone. Not only that, if you've cheated once..and never again it doesn't matter because the hurt spouse can never trust you again..even if you never cheat again, they won't believe it. Also, there are huge legal ramifications to dismantling a marriage. The whole thing is truly tragic. It's interesting though..what you said. You said, 'since obviously not up to par, that's why they are cheating'. Why not fix the broken marriage instead of cheating? It sounds to me like the cheater is pretty lazy and immature. It's all very sad.

Cheating is the ultimate slap in the face to a man or a woman. It shows disrespect for the relationship and the other person. It shows that the one cares more about them self than anyone else. To leave some one takes courage and some people just don't have it. They may also cheat because they think they can and get away with it, kinda like having your cake and eating it to, you could say. You know you have someone that loves you and will be there for you, yet you would still like to jump some other person just because they look good or whisper a bunch of sweet bs in your ear. You do not think about the other person and what you are doing to then and how bad that will hurt them. All they care about is them self and making them happy. That is why anyone who stays with a cheater is a fool, and if they stay and get hurt a second time I have no pity for them. They should have left when it happened the 1st time. Well That's what I think anyway. :)

This is why cheaters cheat. Cheating is not usually something that the person meant to do at the beginning of the relationship, but it happens for two main reasons.
One, the person found someone better and was too wimpy to break off the first relationship, because they found it easier to say nothing in the short term or didn't want to have to go through the trouble of a break-up (so your friend is right on this part).
Two, they keep their partner around as plan B in case the cheating relationship fails (in this scenario, cheating may have been planned before the relationship).
Or it could be both in some cases.

Cheaters are simply selfish and want what they can get.

If they are in a relationship you can bet that they are getting something that they don't deserve from that relationship. The don't leave because that would be sacrificing the loss of whatever they are getting. Could be Money or security, Even status or power. Whatever it is selfish people don't like to give up anything.

The funny part is that they are already giving up the one and only thing that really can mean anything, Self Respect.

Sex,
Money,
Power,
Prestige

All of these things fade with age, and there ain't no one getting any younger.

Cheating is not easy it takes a bunch of energy to lie to yourself and believe that everyone else believes your lie. What is hard is a commitment and faithfulness. Both of these build and require self respect.

Men and Women cheat because their relationship lacks something and they dont want to leave their relationship they just want that one last ting that is missing. stupid you say? yes it is stupid. It may be easy to cheat and lie and get away with it. But it always, always depends ont he cheater. they are the only ones who know truly why they cheated on their spouse or bf/gf. Not every cheater is the same in their motives.

I don't agree at all. When you cheat....you're basically leaving your partner for someone else....so it can't be that leaving isn't easy. I don't know why people cheat...maybe they aren't satisfied with the relationship they're in...maybe they aren't happy...maybe they're doing it out of site or revenge. Cheating is NEVER okay..People should just leave the relationship rather than cheat. If they care anything about the person they're with, they would do that. My number one reason for people cheating is that something in the relationship is lacking.

A cheater knows where home is. They are getting something from the outside but home is where the dinner is cooked and the clothes get washed. They don't want to leave, they are looking for whatever is missing at home.

If he stays, he is either insecure, or he loves her. If he cheats then he is wrong to do so. It is true there arwe "whores" out there who will be easy, but HE still makes the choice to go through with it. Personally, I absolutely adore my partner in every way. I will NOT cheat on he even though many occasions to do so have presented themselves. My answer to them is always NO and always will be.

He who cheats loses everything. It takes more of a man to remain faithful to his partner and be true to her than it does to get in the sack with whomever he wants.

Your friend has a point. They stay with the person just so they have somebody to fall back on. Cheating is wrong and selfish. It is better to leave the person your cheating on rather than not and hurt everybody. Cheating is just wrong!!
